Core Commitment to Your Privacy

Beamark is built with a Local-First Architecture. Your bookmarks, layout canvas snapshots, tags, and notes remain strictly on your local browser device. We do not track your browsing history, sell your personal information, or monetize user data.

1. Data Storage & Local Control

All bookmark records, extracted text content, and visual layout snapshots created via Beamark are stored solely on your machine using Chrome's native chrome.storage.local API.

We operate no central servers or databases containing your personal bookmark library.
You can export your bookmarks to JSON or wipe your library at any time from the Settings dashboard.
Uninstalling the extension instantly purges all local storage data.

2. AI Processing (Auto-Tagging & Summarization)

When enabled in your preferences, Beamark transmits only the current webpage title and main body text to our AI processing proxy to generate relevant tags and concise summaries.

Ephemeral Processing: Page content is processed in real-time in memory and is never permanently retained or used to train AI models.
No Identifiable Data: No user account identifiers, browsing history, cookies, IP logs, or personal credentials are attached to AI requests.
User Controlled: AI auto-tagging and summary generation can be toggled off at any moment in the Settings page.

3. Chrome Extension Permissions Justification

Beamark requests only the minimum set of permissions necessary to function:

host_permissions (<all_urls>)

Extracts clean text and metadata from the active tab when saving, and displays in-page save toasts.

Reads the current tab title, URL, and favicon to construct bookmark entries.

storage & unlimitedStorage

Saves bookmarks, snapshots, and AI tags locally on your browser.

scripting & contextMenus

Injects extractor scripts on demand and provides the right-click quick save option.
